Disabilities

The central focus of educating children with different abilities is nurturing the acceptance of diversity in our society. Inclusion encourages opportunities for families, educators, and the community to support the needs of all children. Sharing, learning, and respecting each other’s individuality are just some of the multiple advantages of positive inclusive practices.

Disabilities Services and the ComPaSS Unit supports and advocates for young children with special needs and their families benefit tremendously from access to appropriate services. The Unit also supports the Grantee and Delegate agencies in complying with Head Start Performance Standards for Children with Disabilities 1308 and 1304 by ongoing monitoring with timely follow-up, content meetings, professional development opportunities, community events, and quality assurance. More importantly, the ComPaSS Unit ensures that it will assist Sacramento County Head Start/Early Head Start programs in meeting the Performance Standard mandate which requires programs to serve no less than 10% of its annual enrollment to children with special needs. Sacramento County Head Start programs has exceeded in meeting this mandate.
