Education

The Head Start and Early Head Start approach to education and early childhood development must be developmentally and linguistically appropriate, recognizing that children have individual rates of development as well as individual interests, temperaments, languages, cultural backgrounds and learning styles. The curriculum must be consistent with the Head Start Performance Standards and based on sound child development principles about how children grow and learn. The Grantee Program Support Unit provides opportunities for programs to collaborate on educational and early childhood issues facing Sacramento County Head Start. Staff training and technical assistance is provided to ensure programs are in compliance with Head Start Performance Standards and other requirements, i.e., Desired Results Developmental Profile-revised (DRDP-r) assessment, On-site Federal Review Monitoring Protocols, and Three Year Goals and Objectives. DRDP-r.

The Desired Results Developmental Profile-revised (DRDP-r) serves as the assessment tool for all center based SETA programs. The DRDP-r assessment tool meets the requirements of State Title IV programs and Head Start Child Outcomes with one instrument. Our DRDP-r Teacher Resource Binder provides an accumulation of forms and ideas gathered from the Sonoma State website, teachers, resource teachers, education specialists and coordinators throughout Sacramento County. A committee was formed to identify which resources would be most valuable to classroom teachers as they used the newly revised DRDP-r. Each program is encouraged to identify and incorporate the ideas and forms that best meet the needs of their specific program.

Countywide Head Start/Early Head Start Home Base Network Meeting The Home Base option offers and supports comprehensive services to children and their families through weekly home visits and group socializations. The network meetings hosted by the Grantee Program Support Unit provide an opportunity for SETA Head Start/Early Head Start Home Base staff to receive professional training, share community resources, and explore solutions to challenges specific to families being served by the Home Base program.
