Head Start provides screening and early identification of social-emotional-behavioral concerns within the first 45 days of each child's enrollment. Teachers and families are provided the support needed to assist children to learn social skills in order to be successful at school and at home. Through teacher training and parent education workshops, child development principles and best practice strategies in fostering child-adult interaction and managing challenging behaviors are discussed. Similarly, through family partnerships and parent involvement, Head Start families are supported to extend their social support networks by increasing access to community resources.
The Grantee Program Support Unit provides opportunities for programs to meet and discuss program challenges. Training opportunities for parents and staff, and unique children’s services are made available through innovative projects and community partnerships. Examples of these projects and partnerships are the SETA Head Start Therapeutic Preschool and the agency collaboration with the Infant Development Association, River Valley Chapter.
