Program Options


Early Head Start: serves children birth to age three and expectant families.

Preschool Head Start: serves children 3 to 5 years of age and their families.


Center-based Program

preschoolHead Start services are delivered at various early learning centers located throughout Sacramento County. Services are delivered either in a half-day or full-day option. Teachers, Family Service Workers, and Social Workers at the sites are the primary providers of services. Center-based programs are offered in school year and year-round options.

half sunPart-day option: this option operates for 3.5 to 6 hours per day, five days per week (four days per week at select locations). Part-day programs are offered in the morning, afternoon or the twilight hours.

Full-day option: this option is designed for working/going to school parents whose schedule demands full-day care. The full day option operates from 6.5 hours to 11 hours per day (depending on the center), five days per week.


Home-based Program

houseThis service delivery option is available to children and families enrolled in both Head Start and Early Head Start. Children and families receive weekly home visits with a Head Start home visitor who provides comprehensive services in the family’s home. Children in this program also get together two times per month for a socialization gathering.
